The Details

Tasting Note Pale gold with a delicate bead and fine mousse. Aromas reminiscent of dry summer meadows, oyster shell and sea spray are overlaid with complex notes of sweet brioche, toast and hazelnut nougat. The palate is elegantly structured with flavours of lemon zest, oyster shell and subtle strawberries and cream. Three and a quarter years ageing on yeast lees in bottle has built further complexity and subtle nuances of baked lemon tart, nougat and roasted hazelnuts. With a refreshing natural acidity on the finish, Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 2020 is a sparkling wine of finesse, purity and elegance.
Best Enjoyed With Crumbed Blue-eye trevalla with a squeeze of lemon and hot chips; or roasted eggplant, zucchini and garlic, with fresh thyme and tarragon white wine linguini.
Treatment Crafted from the finest blocks of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in our estate vineyard at Pipers River, this truly is a benchmark Tasmanian sparkling wine. Planted on deep red basalt clay soils overlooking Bass Strait, these soils and climatic conditions combine to allow long, cool ripening, producing intensely flavoured fruit, balanced with lingering natural acidity.

Accolades

Fine and focused mousse with brisk sea spray freshness
Pale lemon-gold hue with green highlights. Goodness, I don’t want to phone this one in, but that sea spray/oyster shell and green apple tone, easy brioche and just ripe strawberry is redolent of this reliable label. A sprinkle of cinnamon and native honey sweetness with just roasted nuts and grapefruit pith. Fine and focused mousse with brisk sea spray freshness. Hints of earthy truffle and nougat layers intertwine with sweet/yeasty brioche. The tail offers a little chalky grip with signature piercing acidity driving long. If there’s any criticism at all, it’s just missing a little oomph through the tail, but that will fill out with a little age (if you can wait).

A very tidy sparkler
An energetic glass of fizz, this Jansz Vintage 2021 is a very tidy sparkler. It sits on lees for three years which adds to its complexity, but if only it went just a little deeper. Lemons, lemon curd and lemon meringue are the heroes with a creamy drive. Cashew nuts, sourdough bread and Portuguese tart add detail through the mid-palate, but it pulls up a touch short for mine. Baked lemons and lemon juice have the final say. The majority of punters wouldn't baulk at a glass or two. Oh to be picky. Drink to five years+
